Water Street-backed Breg merges with UOG

Breg, a portfolio company of Water Street Healthcare Partners, has merged with United Orthopedic Group. The newly combined company will be headquartered in Carlsbad Calif. and provide sports medicine, rehabilitative orthopedic products and services. No financial terms were disclosed. Breg president Brad Lee has been named president of the newly combined company while UOG CEO Gary Henley will serve as advisor.


PE-backed Orgentec to buy Corgenix for about $16 mln

Orgentec Diagnostika, a portfolio company of Water Street Healthcare Partners, has agreed to acquire Corgenix Medical Corp. for approximately $16 million. According to terms of the agreement, Corgenix shareholders will receive $.27 in cash for each share of common stock they own. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year. Inverness Advisors, a division of KEMA Partners, provided financial advice to Corgenix on the transaction. Headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, Corgenix is a maker of diagnostic test kits.


Water Street invests in CHS and merges it with Walgreen subsidiary

Water Street Healthcare Partners has made an undisclosed investment in CHS Health Services. It has also merged CHS with Walgreen subsidiary Take Care Employer Solutions. Headquartered in the greater Nashville, Tenn. area, the newly combined company will focus on employee health care. Stuart Clark has been named CEO of the merged company.


Water Street and JLL Partners completes merger of CCBR-SYNARC and BioClinica

Water Street Healthcare Partners and JLL Partners said Wednesday that they have completed the merger of CCBR-SYNARC and BioClinica. No financial terms were disclosed. Both Water Street and JLL Partners have named Jeffrey McMullen to serve as chairman of the combined company, which will provide specialty outsourced clinical services.

Water Street sells Medical Specialties Distributors

Water Street Healthcare Partners has sold Stoughton, Mass.-based Medical Specialties Distributors to New Mountain Capital. Water Street partnered with MSD’s management team in 2010 to build the company into the nation’s leading distributor and solutions provider to the growing alternate-site home infusion therapy market.

Water Street appoints Katie Ossman to VP

Water Street Healthcare Partners, a strategic investor focused on the healthcare industry, has appointed Katie Ossman to vice president. Ossman will support Water Street with identifying new investment opportunities, and developing and implementing strategic plans to expand its group of health care companies. Prior to Water Street, Ossman worked as an associate with Avista Capital Partners, where she focused on investments in the health care, consumer and industrials sectors.

Lev, Niles Join Ampersand Capital

Ampersand Capital Partners said Monday that Eric Lev has joined as a partner, while Dana Niles was named CFO and Chief Compliance Officer. John Perkins also joined Ampersand as an operating partner. Lev was most recently at Water Street Healthcare Partners where he served on their investment team. Niles previously was CFO of HighPoint Capital. And Perkins was a senior executive at Talecris Biotherapeutics, an Ampersand portfolio company.

Sarnova Acquires DXE Medical

Sarnova, a specialty distributor of health care products in the emergency medical services and acute care markets, has acquired DXE Medical. DXE is the fifth acquisition Sarnova has completed since Water Street Healthcare Partners invested in the company in 2008.

Water Street to Sell OraPharma to Valeant

Valeant Pharmaceuticals is to acquire OraPharma, an oral health company from Water Street Healthcare Partners, a private equity firm focused exclusively on the health care industry. AAIPharma Services Corp., a private equity backed provider of pharmaceutical product development services, has acquired Celsis Analytical Service. AAIPharma is backed by Chicago-based Water Street Healthcare Partners. Terms of the deal were not released.

Summit Partners Backs CareCentrix

Summit Partners has completed its investment in CareCentrix Inc., a provider of home healthcare benefits management services. The funding is designed to fund continued growth and development of new products. Water Street Healthcare Partners, which bought the company in 2008, will continue to hold a stake going forward. Specific terms of Summit’s investment were not released.

Hudson Named CFO, EVP of HealthPlan

Michael Hudson was named CFO and EVP of HealthPlan Holdings. He was previously head of care management operations for Aetna. HealthPlan is a Water Street Healthcare Partners‘ portfolio company.
