Tangent Energy Names Bruce Sher VP of Biz Dev

Bruce Sher has joined Tangent Energy Solutions as vice president of business development. Previously, Sher was senior vice president of business development at Viridity Energy, based in Philadelphia. Tangent Energy is based in Kennett Square, Penn., and backed by EnerTech Capital.

Bruce Sher has been named Vice President of Business Development for Tangent Energy Solutions, Inc.

Sher will oversee growth into the northeastern U.S. for Tangent, which lowers commercial and industrial (C&I) energy prices by combining on-site renewable generation assets with efficiency technologies to save customers 10 percent to 20 percent in energy costs.

Prior to joining Tangent, Sher was Senior Vice President of Business Development at Viridity Energy, based in Philadelphia, where he led the smart grid effort in the Northeast and worked closely with prestigious clients in New England and New York City developing virtual generation projects.

“Tangent is very fortunate to have Bruce join our team,” said Tangent’s President and CEO Dean Musser. “We’re confident that his robust background in energy management, renewable energy projects, and building control systems will help Tangent Energy spread our operations into the New England states.”

At Tangent, Sher’s industry knowledge and experience will be used to establish lasting relationships with owners of complex energy infrastructures. He will also develop on-site renewable asset projects, and manage the solution sales process through contract close and implementation.

“Tangent provides C&I energy customers with a behind the meter solution that has an unmatched combination of benefits including lower costs, cleaner energy and reduced exposure to issues arising from a congested energy grid,” said Sher. “I’m excited to help Tangent bring their solutions to commercial, industrial and institutional customers in the northeast.”

This year, Tangent has signed long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for projects totaling 9 megawatts (MW) of on-site renewable energy; many of which are completed or under construction. Letters of intent have been signed for projects totaling an additional 17 MW with a pipeline of nearly 90 MW in active discussion.

Previous to his employment at Viridity, Sher was Vice President and Regional Business Leader at Constellation NewEnergy, where he performed supply sourcing, demand‐side programs, and innovative renewable projects. He has also served in leadership positions at Strategic Energy and Select Energy, where he led the opening of new retail commodity markets.

Sher also has substantial experience with building control systems. He served as Vice President of Thielsch Engineering, Inc, an engineering services company, and Director of Business Development with an unregulated affiliate of the Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG). In addition, Sher owned and operated a successful energy management business utilizing building automation systems to reduce energy costs for customers.

Sher received honorable awards including Scientific‐Atlanta Distributor of the Year, Manufacturing Partner of the Year in Connecticut and Rhode Island, and frequently speaks at association and clean energy technology conferences. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science degree in Energy Management from the University of Pennsylvania.

About Tangent Energy Solutions
Tangent Energy Solutions ( reverses the traditional utility driven approach to developing the smart grid by partnering with commercial and industrial customers to optimize the “grid behind the meter.” By providing clean energy assets and technologies at no capital cost, Tangent saves C&I energy customers 10 percent to 20 percent while increasing the amount of renewable content in their supply. Tangent actively manages on-site assets to decrease a customer’s reliance on grid sourced energy, especially during peak demand periods. As a result, both the end-customer and the utilities benefit. Tangent is a venture-backed company founded in 2009 by a management team that has been providing commercially successful energy innovations to mainstream C&I customers for 30 years.
