Former Small Business Investment Company program senior investment officer Kristi Craig has joined the Small Business Investor Alliance to manage business development efforts following Alliance’s recent expansion. The Small Business Investor Alliance, previously known as the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies, is an organization of lower middle market funds and investors.
The Small Business Investor Alliance (the Alliance) today announced that Kristi Craig, formerly the Senior Investment Officer with the Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) Program, has joined the recently expanded Alliance as its Senior Vice President of Business Development.
“Kristi’s breadth and depth of experience investing in small business-focused private equity and mezzanine funds makes her the right person to spearhead the Alliance’s business development efforts,” said Brett Palmer, president of the Alliance. “We look forward to welcoming new members who will join us in our commitment to helping small businesses grow and create new jobs, and we can now offer them improved networking opportunities and increased exposure in Washington.”
The Small Business Investor Alliance, previously known as the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies (NASBIC), is the premier organization of lower middle market funds and investors. Throughout the past year, in response to the evolving needs of the membership, the leadership of NASBIC reinvented the organization with an expanded mission to provide the highest level of service to all funds investing in small businesses, not exclusively SBICs. As a result, the Small Business Investor Alliance was formed in mid-October. The Alliance’s central mission is to ensure an investor-friendly operating environment for private equity funds and investors. It seeks to achieve this objective by providing its members with advocacy on Capitol Hill and with industry regulatory bodies, educational programs and year-round networking events.
Craig has more than 15 years of financial industry experience and has led due diligence and review of over 200 private equity and mezzanine funds as the Senior Investment Officer for the SBIC program, a public-private investment fund, with over $8 billion under management, administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration. In addition to her investment responsibilities, Craig led marketing and outreach for the SBIC Program aimed at attracting fund managers and limited partners to the program. She also managed the program’s efforts with respect to emerging manager and social impact investing.
Craig has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Georgetown University and is a CFA charter holder.
About the Small Business Investor Alliance:
The Small Business Investor Alliance (the Alliance) is the premier organization of lower middle market funds and investors – forming the growth engine for the American economy. The Alliance is one of the oldest continually operating organizations of small business investors in the world. Formed just months after the passage of the Small Business Investment Act of 1958, as the National Association of Small Businesses Investment Companies (NASBIC), the organization has played a pivotal role in promoting the growth and vitality of the industry for more than 50 years. In 2011, NASBIC expanded its membership beyond SBICs and became the Small Business Investor Alliance. Members of the Alliance invest where few others are investing – bread and butter American businesses, which want to grow but need access to capital to be successful.
