TPG has hired Steve Ellis as managing partner of its global operations group and portfolio business business building.
Ellis is the former CEO of Asurion, a provider of mobile device protection services, and worldwide managing director of global managing consulting firm Bain & Company.
In his new leadership position, Ellis will oversee the firm’s operations group and play a key role in driving growth and initiatives across the TPG portfolio.
Prior to becoming worldwide managing director at Bain & Company from 2005 to 2012, Ellis was managing partner for Bain’s West Coast offices and chair of Bain’s North American operating committee. According to the news release announcing Ellis’ appointment at TPG, he was responsible for building Bain’s technology, media & telecommunications practice and “played a prominent role in driving the growth of the firm’s industry-leading private equity group.”
Ellis will be based in TPG’s San Francisco office.
The appointment becomes effective December 1.
