Tuatara Capital appoints Sherman as MD

Tuatara Capital LP, a private equity firm focused on the legal cannabis industry, has named Sergey Sherman as a managing director on the investment team. Previously, Sherman was managing director at Societe Generale.

(“Tuatara”), an SEC-registered private equity firm dedicated to the legal cannabis industry, is pleased to announce its newest senior hire, Sergey Sherman. “Tuatara is excited to welcome such a seasoned senior executive to our rapidly-growing firm,” said Al Foreman, a Partner and the Chief Investment Officer of Tuatara. “Serge brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team and his key private equity relationships will offer immediate positive impact to both our firm and our portfolio companies.“

Sergey joins Tuatara as a Managing Director on the investment team and brings decades of experience in deal origination and transaction structuring. He has extensive financing and portfolio management experience across private equity, mergers & acquisitions, leveraged finance, and corporate credit. “I am very excited to join Tuatara and focus on making investments in the high-growth legal cannabis industry,” said Sergey Sherman, Managing Director at Tuatara, “It’s a terrific opportunity to be able to leverage years of banking and transaction experience to now help successfully guide a diverse universe of entrepreneurial and innovative cannabis companies.”

Sergey brings over 20 years of professional experience in investment banking and has played leadership roles in executing over $50 billion in M&A, debt, and equity capital markets transactions. Prior to Tuatara, Sergey was a Managing Director at Societe Generale where he led client coverage of middle market private equity firms in the United States. Earlier in his banking career, he held similar roles at RBC Capital Markets and J.P. Morgan, and, prior to investment banking, Sergey was in the corporate mergers & acquisitions group at GE Capital. Mr. Sherman started his career as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy, and he received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from The George Washington University.
