Phizzle, a San Francisco-based mobile marketing technology company, has named Jim Whims, partner at venture firm Alsop Louie Partners; Rich Geruson, president and chief executive of Phoenix Technologies; and Mark Krentzman, entrepreneur and member of the Board of Trustees at the Norman Rockwell Museum, to its board. In July, Phizzle announced that it had raised $3 million from Alsop Louie Partners.

Jim Whims has been a director of THQ, Inc. since April 1997. Since February 2010, Mr. Whims has been a partner at Alsop Louie Partners, a venture capital firm specializing in high technology enterprises, and serves as a director of Alsop Louie Partners portfolio companies Smith & Tinker and Ruckus Media Group.
Since 1996, Mr. Whims has been a Managing Director of TechFund Capital I, L.P., TechFund Capital II, L.P., and since 2001, TechFund Capital Europe, venture capital firms concentrating on high-technology enterprises. From 1994 to 1996, as Executive Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Mr. Whims was responsible for the entertainment changing launch of the Sony Playstation. Mr. Whims was a co-founder of Worlds of Wonder, an American toy company founded by former Atari employees, which distributed the Nintendo Entertainment System in the United States. Mr. Whims is a board member of Synaptics Inc. and numerous private company boards.
Rich Geruson serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Technologies. Before joining Phoenix, Mr. Geruson was the Chief Executive Officer of VoiceSignal Technologies, which Mr. Geruson built into the world leader in voice recognition software for mobile phones, increasing shareholder value ten-fold and culminating in the sale of VoiceSignal for twelve times revenue.
Prior to VoiceSignal, Mr. Geruson was Senior Vice President at Nokia Americas’ mobile phone business where he helped grow the business ten-fold, tripling its market share and giving Nokia the number one share position in the United States and, for the first time in its history, the number one share position in the world. Previous to Nokia, Mr. Geruson was Vice President and General Manager of IBM’s Networking Distribution Business in North America and also served as Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Networking Hardware.
Prior to IBM, Mr. Geruson was Vice President at Toshiba Americas’ mobile computing business. Mr. Geruson has also held executive positions at McKinsey & Company where he developed and helped execute strategy for several Fortune 500 companies. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors for Phoenix Technologies and of several other technology companies.
Mark Krentzman is an entrepreneur and small business owner, as well as a longtime advisor to many small to mid-size businesses. Presently, Mr. Krentzman is an owner and board member at Jones & Vining, a World Leading “last” and shoe component manufacturer with facilities in both Asia and North America.
Mr. Krentzman has spent the last eight years as a business development consultant to BioVentures Investors, a BioTech Venture Capital Partnership making investments in BioTech and is located in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Mr. Krentzman has also been a long time Special Advisor to Premier Capital and Lenders Trust. Mr. Krentzman is a trustee of the Norman Rockwell Museum and a corporator for the Northeastern University Corporation. Mr. Krentzman is a Graduate of Northeastern University and Harvard Business School.
