VSS-Backed Access Intelligence Buys RETECH

Veronic Suhler Stevenson, a New York buyout fund, has with its portfolio company Access Intelligence, purchased a minority stake in RETECH, a exhibition and conference event. Deal terms were not disclosed.

Press release:

The American Council of Renewable Energy (ACORE) announced today it has selected leading b-to-b information provider, Access Intelligence, to purchase a minority stake in the RETECH exhibition and conference event, which brings together more than 3,000 leaders in the fast-growing renewable and alternative energy technology sector. The partnership pairs the leading information provider in the Energy space – Access Intelligence – with the premier membership organization serving the renewable energy community, ACORE.

The RETECH trade show and conference, to be held in February 2010, was launched two years ago by ACORE to focus on the full spectrum of renewable and alternative energy technologies. The just-announced partnership with Access Intelligence will enhance an already formidable show, which earlier this year attracted more than 240 executive speakers, 3,000 attendees, an Exhibit Hall with 140 renewable energy companies demonstrating their products, media participation from over 50 outlets, 40 countries represented, five side events, and a dynamic keynote session.

Access Intelligence’s flagship brands in its Energy Division include the ELECTRIC POWER tradeshow, Energy Ocean Conference, POWER magazine and The Energy Daily.

RETECH is the one-stop educational program for professionals wanting to stay current on the dynamic renewable energy industry, including wind power, solar energy, hydro and ocean power, geothermal power, biomass energy, biofuels and waste-energy. The event is tailored to executives, managers and professionals in all functions and in all areas of renewable energy.

“AI has the capability to take RETECH to another level, and as partners this will benefit our loyal customers while also generating new opportunities for both of our organizations,” notes Michael Eckhart, President of ACORE. “We’re extremely impressed with the style and professionalism of the management team at AI, and are excited about a long and fruitful relationship between our groups.” The partnership and acquisition of the RETECH event places AI in the rapidly expanding renewable energy marketplace. “This widely respected and visionary international event was launched in 2008 by ACORE and has grown quickly to serve all forms of renewable energy on a global basis,” says AI President & CEO Don Pazour. “Our team is very excited to partner with ACORE and build on the solid foundation created by ACORE in the renewable industry as we grow this conference in conjunction with our stable of energy properties including POWER, The Energy Daily, Clean Energy Update, ELECTRIC POWER, Energy Ocean and Clean Series Events.” The RETECH conference and exhibition will be a part of Access Intelligence’s expansive Energy portfolio, which publishes The Energy Daily newsletter, POWER magazine, ELECTRIC POWER tradeshow, Energy Ocean Conference, The Clean Energy Update and TheEnergydaily.com, under the leadership of Divisional President Heather Farley.

“ACORE’s conferences are a cut above the others because they feature top executives and professional leaders of the renewable energy field as speakers, so the learning factor is extremely high, for top executives and well as mid-career professionals and younger people coming into the business,” said John Cavalier, managing Partner at Hudson Clean Energy Partners and former Chairman of Energy Investment Banking at Credit Suisse.
