Warburg Pincus hires new general counsel and MD

Private equity firm Warburg Pincus said Thursday that it has named Robert B. Knauss as general counsel and managing director. Previously, Knauss, who is based in the firm’s New York office, worked at Munger, Tolles & Olson in Los Angeles, where he served as a corporate partner and focused primarily on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities and private equity.


NEW YORK, Nov. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Warburg Pincus, a leading global private equity firm focused on growth investing, today announced the appointment of Robert B. Knauss as General Counsel and Managing Director. Mr. Knauss, based in the firm’s New York office, will oversee the firm’s legal and regulatory matters and will join the firm’s Executive Management Group.
Prior to joining Warburg Pincus, Mr. Knauss was a corporate partner at the firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP in Los Angeles, where he focused primarily on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities and private equity. He has worked across a wide variety of industries for clients including Yucaipa Companies, Oaktree Capital Management, Lazard and Moelis & Company. Prior to joining Munger, Tolles & Olson in 1981, Mr. Knauss served as a law clerk for Justice William H. Rehnquist of the Supreme Court of the United States and the Honorable Walter R. Mansfield of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He is a graduate of Harvard College and the University of Michigan Law School.
