Munich-based VC Wellington Partners alongside ICSO Private Equity has extended its series B financing for medical diagnosis company SuperSonic Imagine to €26m.
The additional funding will be used to fund the first clinical application of Aixplorer Ultrasound System which is used to diagnose pathological changes in the breast. The technology is already marketed in the UK, France and Germany.
Partner at Wellington, Erich Schlick said: “In times of strained budgets and global recession, the healthcare systems of all major developed countries are longing for cost efficient medical devices. SSI has developed such a technology.”
Wellington’s investment in SSI is part of the firm’s strategy to broaden its medtech portfolio. It has already invested in orthopaedic specialist Implanet, colonoscopy company Invendo Medical and glaucoma diagnostic company Sensimed.
Paris-headquartered Edmond de Rothschild was the previous lead investor for SuperSonic.
