Calgary-based telecommunications provider WiMacTel Inc has bought for an undisclosed price payphone assets of Canada Payphone Corp, a brand business of Globalive Communications Corp of Toronto. Calgary Based WiMacTel Launches Payphone Alternative in Canada With The Acquisition of CPC Payphone Assets
CALGARY, Alberta, Jan. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — WiMacTel, a telecom company serving Canada and USA, will provide an alternative pay phone service to Canadian business and municipalities after acquiring certain assets of Canada Payphone Corporation.
Calgary based WiMacTel, an independent nationwide telecommunications company and one of the largest provider of pay phones in North America, announced the acquisition of Canada Payphone Corporation’s Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec pay phone assets.
The acquired payphones will be operated under the WiMacTel brand and will be upgraded to the company’s Millennium payphone technology that include visual displays, card readers and ability to accept the new Loonie coin. The initial locations of WiMacTel payphones in Canada will include Shopping Malls, Grocery and Convenience Stores, Gas Stations, Hotels, Restaurants and Bars, Government, Recreational Complexes, Entertainment Centre’s, Movie Theatres, Drop In Centre’s and Oil Sands Camps.
The new base of payphones in Canada complements WiMacTel’s USA payphones and positions WiMacTel as the only company serving accounts in both countries. WiMacTel provides all services necessary to operate payphones including operator services, long distance, directory assistance, wireless dial tone and repair/collection staff. Customer service is a primary focus for WiMacTel and carries the promise of payphones that always work, are clean and provide quality service.
James MacKenzie, CEO of WiMacTel commented that, “We believe in the need and value of public telephony. It is a reality that not all Canadians will own a cellphone; many individuals have the need to carefully manage their prepaid cellular minutes; losing a cellphone or a dead cellphone battery is a common occurrence; and travellers want to avoid high roaming costs. A payphone provides a solution to satisfy all of these realities.”
John Wilson, Executive Vice President added, “We understand that payphones are not of strategic importance to telephone companies and we are pleased to provide a viable alternative for site owners that want a payphone that has been removed by the phone company or simply want better service.”
WiMacTel is a Telecommunications Company providing operator services, directory assistance, long distance, wireless/VoIP dial tone and payphone services to Local Exchange Carriers, Inmate Facilities, Airports, Government, Convenience Stores, Gas Stations, Hotels, Hospitals, Universities/Colleges and Payphone Operators nationwide in the USA and Canada.
