Baird Capital Partners, the U.S.-based buyout fund of Baird Private Equity, announced that it had added Mark Hodges as an operating partner. Hodges is the founder and CEO of Hodges Advisory, a firm that advises the founders of services companies on growth and liquidity, Baird said in a statement. Previously he was co-founder and chairman of the board of EquaTerra, an outsourcing and shared services advisory company.

W. P. Carey & Co. announced the death of its founder and chairman, Wm. Polk Carey. Carey, who was 81 years old, died of natural causes at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla. He was surrounded by family and friends who had traveled to be with him.

Kazuhiro Yamada has been named co-head of Japanese operations at The Carlyle Group, replacing Masao Hirano, who has resigned from the firm, Reuters reported. Hirano left the company at the end of the year, and will become a senior adviser to Carlyle and an independent consultant.

Allen Ukritnukun has joined Cerberus Capital Management as head of European corporate distressed trading and investing, the firm announced. He will be based in London. Ukritnukun previously was a London-based managing director at Goldman Sachs within Global Credit, responsible for European private distressed trading and investing.

Global Environment Fund has added three members to its team: Dwight O’Donnell joined the firm’s forestry team as a senior investment partner. Nick Morriss joined as a senior investment partner. Peter Tynan joined as managing director of sustainability. Global Environment Fund is a Washington, D.C.-based buyout firm founded in 1990.

Stuart Howard has joined Boston buyout shop HarbourVest Partners LLC as chief operating officer, European Listed Products. He will be based in London and will be responsible for overseeing HarbourVest’s role in the operations of HarbourVest Global Private Equity Ltd. and HarbourVest Senior Loans Europe. Howard joins from 3i.

Irving Place Capital has added Michael Howe as a senior adviser for the firm’s health care practice. He is the former chief executive of retail-based health care provider MinuteClinic and will help the firm identify and pursue new investments in the consumer-facing health care space. Irving Place Capital is a mid-market buyout shop based in New York.

Moelis Capital Partners, the buyout arm of Moelis & Co., has appointed Frederick J. Florjancic Jr. and Jim Murphy as executive advisers. Florjancic was most recently CEO of Safety-Kleen and will focus on industrial and services-related investments. Murphy, who was previously CEO of American Safety Razor and Personal Care Group, will focus on consumer-related opportunities, Moelis said.

Portfolio Companies

Donald Batchelor has joined Ametros Financial, a company owned by New York-based buyout shop Clarion Capital Partners, as vice president. Previously, Batchelor was senior vice president of network services and operations with a startup health care company specializing in the federal sector. He will be based in Southlake, Texas.

Leo Hindery Jr., a managing partner of InterMedia Partners LP, has joined the board of PhoneGuard Inc. PhoneGuard is a subsidiary of Options Media Group Holdings, and a provider of mobile applications software. Hindery is the former chairman and chief executive of The YES Network, which he founded.

A series of outside directors have resigned from Eastman Kodak Co., Reuters reported. Laura Tyson, a professor and White House adviser, has stepped down, the company said in a Securities and Exchange filing. Adam Clammer and Herald Chen, who both represented Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., resigned days earlier. Clammer and Chen had joined Kodak’s board in 2009, after KKR bought $300 million of of the struggling photo company’s senior secured notes and warrants to buy 40 million of the company’s shares.

Mrs. Fields Famous Brands, a franchisor in the premium snack food industry, has appointed a new board of directors. The business is majority-owned by Z Capital Partners and The Carlyle Group. The board includes: Robert S. Morrison, the former chairman, president and CEO of the Quaker Oats Co. and an operating partner of Z Capital; James J. Zenni, president and CEO of Z Capital; Michael D. Stewart, a managing director of The Carlyle Group; Christopher J. Kipley, a managing director of Z Capital; along with incumbent chairman Bruce Pettet and David Barr, an existing director who is chairman of Rita Restaurants LLC (formerly Avado Brands) and PMTD Restaurants LLC

Roark Capital Group portfolio company Arby’s Restaurant Group Inc., the roast beef sandwich chain, has named George Condos chief operating officer. Condos worked previously for Dunkin Brands, where he held the position of vice president of marketing, development and operations. Most recently he was senior vice president and brand officer of Dunkin Donuts. Atlanta-based Roark Capital acquired majority ownership of Arby’s last summer.

Service Providers

International asset management, capital markets, private equity, and wealth management firm Baird has established a new small/mid cap equity team led by Michelle Stevens, a small cap value investor. Stevens and her team will manage institutional and individual equity portfolios.

Specialty business law firm Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian has added six new partners to its corporate and securities group, intellectual properties group and venture and private equity funds group: Darrin Brown, Joshua Cook, Michael Irvine, Jerry Ku, David Sharrow and Greg Volkmar. The firm is based in Redwood City, Calif.

KBW Inc., a publicly traded investment bank, has added James Harasimowicz and Joseph Gulash as managing directors in the Depository Investment Banking Group. Harasimowicz joins in New York, and is anticipated to become the head of the firm’s Chicago office, the firm said. Gulash, who is based in San Francisco, joins from D.A. Davidson & Co., where he led merger and acquisition and capital markets transactions.

Promotions

Berkshire Partners appointed E.J. Whelan a managing director. Whelan joined Berkshire in 2005 and has focused on consumer products, retail and business services companies.

Cogent Partners has promoted Chris Bonfield to the post of director, based in Dallas; and Dominik Woessner to director in London. The firm also announced that it has promoted Briac Houtteville to vice president in London. Cogent Partners is a private equity-focused investment bank.

Chicago-based Cressey & Co., a health care-focused buyout firm, has promoted two longtime employees to partner and another to principal. Merrick Axel, one of Cressey’s new partners, joined the firm in 2005. David Schuppan, the firm’s second new partner, has been with the company since 1999. Dave Rogero, its newly appointed principal, has worked for Cressey since 2002.

Fireman Capital Partners, a consumer-focused buyout and growth equity firm, has promoted Liam Patrick to partner. Since joining Fireman Capital Partners in May 2009, Patrick has served as a managing director and head of M&A activities, as well as a member of the investment committee.

Investment firm First Reserve Corp. has promoted nine members of its team: Michael France, Francesco Giuliani, Neil Hartley, John Mogford and Joshua Weiner were named managing directors. Gary Reaves, Ryan Shockley and Ryan Zafereo became directors. Matthew Raben was promoted to director, legal

Gen 22 Fund Services, a private equity fund administrator based in New York, has announced the promotions of three people to managing director: Ariel Jorge, Rose Kim and Michael Tesoro. Jorge joined Gen II from Citi Private Equity Services Inc., where he served as a vice president. Kim and Tesoro were both previously vice presidents at Credit Suisse Alternative Investments.

David Atterbury has been promoted to the post of managing director at HarbourVest Partners, which also promoted 10 other individuals to principal and vice president. In Europe, Carolina Espinal de Carulla, Claudio Siniscalco and Hannah Tobin have been promoted to principal, and Craig MacDonald has been promoted to vice president. In Asia, Tim Flower has been promoted to principal, and Kelvin Yap and Maggie Chan have been promoted to vice president. And in the United States, Ian Lane and Aris Hatch have been promoted to principal, and McComma Grayson has been promoted to vice president.

Levine Leichtman Capital Partners has promoted Kimberly Pollack and Aaron Perlmutter to general partners of the firm. Pollack joined the firm in 2001, bringing experience in analyzing new deal opportunities, business plan reviews and financial analysis on middle market companies. Perlmutter joined in 2003, bringing expertise in analyzing middle market investments, business due diligence and post-investment monitoring.

Littlejohn & Co. has promoted Michael Klein to the post of chief executive, and promoted Brian Ramsay to president. Ramsay was previously a managing director. Angus Littlejohn will continue as chairman.

Law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy has elected four new partners: Jacqueline Su-Lynn Chan, Daniel Michalchuk, Atara Miller and Nicholas Smith. The new partners are working in the firm’s Singapore and New York offices.

Paladin Capital Group has promoted Paul Conley to managing director. The firm also promoted Christopher Steed to vice president and Gibb Witham to senior associate. Conley joined Paladin in 2007, and was previously the co-founder and chief executive of BrightScale, a Silicon Valley-based fab-less semiconductor company.

Growth equity firm Summit Partners has promoted three to managing director and five to principal. Robin Devereux, Han Sikkens and Christian Strain were promoted to managing director. Michael Anderson, Dave Averett, Vincent Lambert, Michael Medici and Peter Rottier were promoted to principal. Summit is based in Boston.

Sun Capital Partners has promoted five to the position of managing director: Paul Daccus, Scott Edwards, Anthony Polazzi, Brian Urbanek and Aaron Wolfe. The firm now has 22 managing directors. Sun Capital has offices in Boca Raton, Los Angeles, and New York.
