Doutissima, a South American health and well-being forum, has raised a seed capital round led by DFJ Esprit with participation from Breega Capital. The company also signed a strategic partnership with Telefonica-backed startup accelerator Wayra, also an investor in Doutissima.
Doutissima, a leading South American health and well-being forum, announced today that it has raised a seed capital round from leading European venture capital firm, DFJ Esprit with participation from Breega Capital. The company also signed a unique strategic partnership with Telefonica backed startup accelerator Wayra, also an investor in Doutissima, which allows it to leverage operations between the London and São Paulo academies.
The investment and bi-continental acceleration will support Doutissima’s mission to become the leading health and well-being forum in South America by improving infrastructure, expanding traffic growth and growing its team of global contributors, doctors and journalists.
Doutissima, an online health and beauty forum that provides education and advice in Brazil as its first market, was founded by former DFJ Esprit venture partner and Brand Alley founder, Sven Lung. The Doutissima platform receives 7 million unique visitors per month and 27 million page views. Through revenue generated by advertising it is currently growing at 120 per cent month on month, and is already working with VIVO, the mobile operator of Telefónica in Brazil and Terra Brazil, the internet portal of Telefónica.
Doutissima plans to release a mobile application in the near future which will be available in South America and Europe. The app will provide access to an instant messaging feature to contact the already active community and allow live Q&A with health experts.
“Since our launch, we have looked for strategic partners who understood the market we are in and the challenges of running operations across several locations. Through my relationship with DFJ Esprit, I knew they had the knowledge of how to make a business successful across multiple regions,” said Sven Lung, CEO of Doutissima.
Similarly, our decision to join Wayra was swayed by its understanding of the South American startup culture and how they can help us grow to take a leadership position in Brazil .The support provided by Wayra in helping shape and deliver several strategic contracts with Telefonica has been second to none.”
The joint operations in both London and São Paulo, is the first time a startup has been housed by Wayra academies in multiple locations. This enables Doutissima to take advantage of the programme’s assets across the world.
“Sven is a great entrepreneur and Doutissima has got off to a fantastic start,” said Stuart Chapman, Partner of DFJ Esprit.
Through our own experience of building international companies and through the reach of the DFJ Global Network we will support Doutissima as it grows in multiple geographies.”
Gonzalo Martín-Villa, CEO of Wayra added “We’re very pleased to be supporting Doutissima in both Brazil and the UK. The capability of Wayra to provide international support and infrastructure is one of our main differentiators along with our connection to Telefónica. Working with Doutissima demonstrates how we listen to individual startup needs and work closely with them to provide a service that will help them meet their objectives.”
