Abacus expands investment team

New York-based direct lending company Abacus Finance Group has added four new investment professionals to its team. The firm has appointed Aized Rabbani as senior vice president, Brian Green as associate, Rafal Rydzewski as analyst and Joseph Lee as an analyst.

Abacus Finance Group, LLC, a New York-based direct lending company that provides cash-flow senior financing for private equity-sponsored, lower-middle market companies, announced that it has closed over $500 million in new loan commitments since its launch in June of 2011. Abacus also announced today that it has added four new investment professionals this year.

“When we set out to build a sponsor-focused leveraged lending business for the lower-middle market, we knew the demand was there but never expected success to come this quickly,” said Tim Clifford, President and CEO of Abacus. “In addition to our exclusive focus on financing smaller buyouts, among the principal factors contributing to our growth and reputation as a go-to partner is that we lead virtually all of our transactions and often take equity co-investment positions alongside the sponsors we serve. A passionate commitment to serving our clients and delivering on what we promise is at the core of our Total Partnership Approach TM.”
The firm’s growth and expansion is tied directly to the quality of the investment team it has attracted, and the new members being named today are:

• Aized Rabbani, Senior Vice President
• Brian Green, Associate
• Rafal Rydzewski, Analyst
• Joseph Lee, Analyst

Mr. Rabbani joined Abacus as a Senior Vice President on the investment team, responsible for originating, structuring, underwriting and executing new investments. Mr. Rabbani began his career with General Electric’s management program followed by technology roles at MicroStrategy. He earned an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a BS in electrical engineering with a minor in math at Lafayette College.

Before joining Abacus, Mr. Green served as an Associate at both Aterian Investment Partners and Wafra Partners and held an analyst position at Sawaya Segalas, a boutique investment bank. He began his career as a consultant at FTI Consulting in the Corporate Finance and Restructuring Group after earning a BA cum laude in economics from Georgetown University.
Mr. Rydzewski, who was previously an Analyst at BNP Paribas’ Merchant Banking Group, began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Global Structuring team as an Associate. He earned a BS in financial economics, graduating magna cum laude from Binghamton University and is a CFA Charterholder.
Prior to coming to Abacus, Mr. Lee was an Analyst at GE Capital. After earning a BS in accountancy and finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he started his career at General Electric in the Financial Management Program.
