ACS Joins Standard & Poor's 500 Index

American Capital Strategies, a sometimes overlooked but growing force in leveraged buyouts, has secured a spot in the S&P 500. Fittingly, it was a leveraged buyout that created the opening in the much-followed stock index:  The take-private of Dollar General Corp. by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. Regulated as a business development company, ACS over its 21-year life has grown to a market capitalization of $7.5 billion largely through savvy investments in senior debt, subordinated debt and equity of mid-sized private and public companies.
