Advent International has hired three new operating partners to focus on the tech and telecom sectors: Richard Atkins, a former IBM exec; Sergio Giacoletto, former executive VP of Oracle; and John Hughes, current non-executive chairman of Telecity Group PLC, Intec Telecom Systems PLC and Spectris PLC.
Advent International, the global private equity firm, today announced that three technology industry leaders have joined its Operating Partner Programme to advise the firm on investment opportunities in the technology and telecoms sector. Richard Atkins, Sergio Giacoletto and John Hughes each bring with them extensive international experience of a range of technology and telecoms businesses and will support Advent’s existing expertise in the sector.
Richard Atkins has a long track record of working in the IT services and business process outsourcing market with particular emphasis on strategy development and managing growth. Between 1996 and 2005, he worked at IBM Corporation in a variety of senior executive roles, including leading IBM Global Services in Northern Europe, an 18,000 employee core unit of IBM. Richard is currently Chairman of 7 City Learning Ltd, and a non-executive director of Global Crossing UK plc and a former non-executive director of Message Labs Group Ltd.
From 2000 until December 2008, Sergio Giacoletto was Executive Vice President of Oracle Corporation and a Member of the Executive Committee. He oversaw a network of 136 offices and 17,000 employees in over 50 countries, with responsibility for managing Oracle’s sales and consulting businesses throughout the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. His current non-executive director roles comprise of Logica plc, CSR plc and COLT Telecom. Previously, Sergio held senior executive roles at AT&T International and Digital Equipment Corporation and has considerable experience in running large, high-growth businesses, opening new markets and integrating acquisitions. Over the years he has served in multiple company boards and industry associations. He holds a Master Degree in Computer Science from the University of Turin, Italy.
John Hughes currently holds non-executive chairman roles with Telecity Group plc, Intec Telecom Systems plc and Spectris plc and has held executive roles with Thales Group, Lucent Technologies and Hewlett Packard in the past. John has successfully managed complex high technology businesses across international boundaries in both entrepreneurial, venture capital backed environments and large, Fortune 50 Corporations. Most recently, he has taken a number of other Board level appointments with international publicly quoted companies in the technology, telecoms and IT Services areas including Chloride Group plc, Parity Group plc and Nice Systems Ltd. He sat on the Board of Barco N.V.
