Aruba Buying Airwave

Aruba Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: ARUN) has agreed to acquire Airwave Wireless Inc., a San Mateo, Calif.-based provider of WLAN management software for configurable networks. The deal is valued at $37 million in cash and stock. Airwave had raised VC funding from Ignition Partners, Idealab and Westbury Equity Partners.

(NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in user-centric networks and secure mobility solutions. Upon completion of the transaction, AirWave employees will continue to develop and support the AirWave software products as a business unit of Aruba based in San Mateo, CA. The merger provides AirWave with access to new resources which will drive accelerated development of the award-winning, vendor-neutral AirWave Wireless Management Suite software.

AirWave's management software is currently deployed by numerous global IT organizations in the education, finance, government, healthcare, hospitality, Internet service provider, managed service provider, manufacturing and retail sectors. The AirWave Wireless Management Suite enables IT departments to centrally manage, monitor, and configure large, complex, multi-location and multi-function wireless networks comprised of hardware from leading vendors, including Aruba, Avaya, Cisco, Meru, Motorola/Symbol, HP ProCurve, Proxim, Trapeze, Tropos and others. Unlike proprietary element management systems, the AirWave software supports the work of the entire IT staff, from the first-level help desk to the most senior wireless engineers and IT management.
