Parsons has acquired Secure Missions Solutions, which provides asset protection and cybersecurity services, from Riordan, Lewis & Haden Equity Partners. The acquisition will expand Parson's cybersecurity market. Houlihan Lokey worked as advisor to Secure Mission Solutions.
TreeHouse Foods will acquire Protenergy Natural Foods for about $150 million from Whitecastle Investments, Whitecap Venture Partners and other investors. William Blair is working as financial advisor to Protenergy and Whitecastle with respect to the transaction.
Foundation Capital has led a $70 million funding round in ad tech company AdRoll. New investors in the company include Institutional Venture Partners, Northgate Capital, Performance Equity and Glenmede. Existing investors in AdRoll include Merus Capital, Accel Partners and Peter Thiel. Eric Liaw of IVP will join AdRoll's board of directors as a board observer. The company formerly raised a total of $19 million prior to this funding round.
Francisco Partners-backed Cross Match Holdings has agreed to acquire DigitalPersona, a merger of two companies that will create a global biometrics technology company. Rich Agostinelli, chief executive of DigitalPersona, will take over as CEO of the combined companies, which will be headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Clearview Capital has acquired Northwest Cosmetic Laboratories, a maker of cosmetic and skin care products for branded cosmetic and personal care companies. Clearview made the acquisition in partnership with company management. Gary Voigt, Northwest Cosmetic's owner, will remain a significant investor. The deal marks Clearview's third platform investment from Fund III in the last six months.
Evaluate Ltd., which provides consensus forecasts and analysis of the life sciences industry, has led a $2 million Series A funding round in AdverseEvents, a healthcare informatics company focused on drug safety. Other investors in the round include Trevor Fenwick, founder and executive chairman of Euromonitor International, and Michael Tansey, former president and CEO of Jobson. Jonathan de Pass, founder and CEO of Evaluate, and Tansey will join Evaluate's board of directors.
Venture capital firms invested $9.5 billion in 951 deals in the first quarter, the highest quarterly total since Q2 of 2001, according to the MoneyTree Report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association, based on data provided by Thomson Reuters. Investment activity rose 12 percent in dollar terms but fell 14 percent in the number of deals, compared to the fourth quarter.
CollabNet, which provides cloud-based application lifecycle management solutions for software delivery at scale, has hired Jan Liband as vice president of marketing. Liband previously worked at Embarcadero Technologies, VA Software, Wind River and other Silicon Valley companies. Vector Capital acquired and made a growth investment in CollabNet earlier this year.
GenNx360 Capital Partners has hired Glen Bushery, former chief financial officer and chief compliance officer of Falconhead Capital, as CFO effective immediately. Prior to Falconhead, Bushery worked as controller for Vestar Capital Partners. He has also worked as assistant controller at The Blackstone Group.
