Hub International Ltd, a portfolio company of U.S. private equity firm Hellman & Friedman (H&F), has acquired the shares of Jasper, Alberta-based Carlton Insurance Brokers Inc (C.I.B.), a provider of personal and commercial insurance and specializing in solutions for the transportation industry. No financial terms were disclosed. Hub, a global insurance brokerage with significant operations in Canada, was bought by H&F for about US$4.4 billion in 2013. The company has its headquarters in Chicago.
CoolSys, which is backed by Audax Private Equity, has acquired Axiom Energy Solutions, a provider of energy efficient equipment and technology solutions. No financial terms were disclosed.
Aterian Investment Partners has acquired San Jose, California-based Vander-Bend Manufacturing, a maker of precision products. No financial terms were disclosed. Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP advised Aterian on the deal.
Francisco Partners has agreed to acquire Renaissance, a provider of pre K-12 learning analytics. The sellers includes Heller & Friedman. No financial terms were disclosed. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2018. Macquarie Capital was financial adviser to Renaissance while Barclays and Jefferies did likewise for Francisco Partners.
Liqui-Box, a portfolio company of Olympus Partners, has named Andrew McLeland as chief operating officer. Liqui-Box is a provider of flexible liquid packaging solutions.
Source Capital LLC has acquired Federalsburg, Maryland-based M&M Refrigeration LLC, a provider of industrial refrigeration equipment and control systems for cold storage, food processing and other industrial applications. No financial terms were disclosed.
Gemspring Capital has acquired a controlling stake in Boise and Dallas-based A10 Capital, a provider of middle-market commercial real estate loans. Schroders also participated in the investment. A10's previous backers, which include H.I.G. Capital, will retain a "significant" minority stake in the company.

HCS Capital Partners has invested in Ceptinel LLC. Based in Chile, Ceptinel is a fintech company that specializes in regulatory technology.
Industrial Growth Partners has sold Tucson, Arizona-based IOTA Engineering, a maker of lighting products and power equipment, to Acuity Brands Inc. No financial terms were disclosed.
