Freeman, the Dallas-based marketing and conference coordinator, has acquired Wheelhouse Solutions, a parent company to several companies to which the Texas company is a client. Wheelhouse was a portfolio company of North Carolina private equity firm Pamlico Capital, formerly Wachovia Capital Partners. MHT Securities advised on the transaction.
Biosurgery device company LifeBond has lured $20 million in a Series C round with investors Giza Capital and Aurum Ventures, with Johnson & Johnson Development Corp. participating in the round as well. Other investors in the Israel-based company include Pitango Venture Capital, and the Sitelman Group.
Todd Papaioannou, the architect of Yahoo’s cloud computing group, will join Battery Ventures as an entrepreneur in residence. He will work on investment opportunities in the data, cloud computing and analytics spaces. GigaOM first reported the news on its website.

Atinum Partners Co., the Korean investment firm, has struck a deal with SandRidge Energy, the Oklahoma-based oil field services and energy company, for a $500 million drilling project. SandRidge was advised by Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. and Vinson & Elkins LLP, and Atinum was advised by Barclays Capital and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in this transaction.
Sun Capital Partners, the Boca Raton, Fla.-based private equity firm, has hired Jack Knott as a managing director. One Equity Partners’ Vacuumschmelze was dealt to strategic acquirer OM Group, the listed chemicals company, in a deal that completed earlier this week. The dealfor the materials and magnetics company was for 700 million Euros, including $50 million in common stock. The syndication, led by BofA Merrill Lynch, PNC Capital Markets LLC and BNP Paribas, was oversubscribed.
Jorge Mora will join Macquarie Group, where he will act as senior managing director and as head of U.S. financial sponsors for the company in New York. Mora has 18 years of experience and most recently served as head of financial sponsors with Lazard.
David Booth will take over leadership of BackOffice Associates LLC, the data governance and migration solutions firm, as President and CEO. The company, founded by Tom and Trish Kennedy, accepted a growth equity investment from GS Capital Partners in May 2011.
JanRain, the provider of social identity management solutions for businesses, collected $15.5 million from investors including Anthem Venture Partners, DFJ Frontier, RPM Ventures, Tim Draper, and founder Larry Drebes with participation from Square 1 Bank. Emergence Capital Partners led the funding round. The company counts MTV, Tribune Co. and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group among its clients.
