BioRx announced today that it has acquired Coagulife Pharmacy, a specialized provider of clotting factor medications and supplies for the treatment of hemophilia and related bleeding disorders. Coagulife is based in Savage, Minnesota.
“The addition of Coagulife talent and expertise will contribute significantly to our leadership in home hemophilia care,” said Phil Rielly, president and co-founder of BioRx. “We are excited to grow together in delivering outstanding personalized care to the bleeding disorders community.”
Coagulife was founded in 2004 by brothers Jeff and Daniel Kallberg. Jeff lives with hemophilia and speaks nationally about the importance of physical activity for hemophilia patients. He is also a licensed physical therapist and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
“We’ve known Jeff for many years,” said Rielly. “He is deeply respected in the hemophilia community and the physical therapy profession. He and Daniel have built a successful business that complements our capabilities very well. Combined, both companies will continue to thrive in a highly competitive business environment.”
Through Kallberg’s physical therapy leadership, BioRx expects to deliver value-added services for patients who live with musculoskeletal complications caused by hemophilia. Building on Coagulife’s existing health and wellness platform, BioRx will develop a national joint care and rehabilitative support program for patients who have chronic joint damage or are recovering from an orthopedic surgical procedure. Joint complications are common among hemophilia patients and can increase the frequency and severity of internal bleeding.
“We are truly excited to expand our reach and capabilities through this agreement,” said Kallberg. “BioRx is widely regarded as a patient-focused, community-oriented company, and that has been our mission as well. Together we’ll be able to provide hemophilia patients with enhanced homecare services that are unavailable anywhere else in the country.”
Coagulife Pharmacy was created to address the extreme expense of treating hemophilia today. The company brings together innovative services into a single program to better manage the disease, including disease management, dose management, specialty pharmacy services, physical therapy, and nursing coordination – all designed to improve outcomes and decrease costs. By focusing on prevention and on overall health, Coagulife has been able to significantly reduce expensive factor infusions and nearly eliminate hospitalizations.
Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, BioRx is one of the nation’s fastest growing providers of specialty pharmaceuticals and infusion services, delivering highly customized care for patients with certain rare and chronic diseases. In addition to serving the bleeding disorders community, BioRx offers pharmacy, nursing and education services to patients with hereditary angioedema, immune deficiencies, autoimmune disorders, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and nutritional/digestive disorders. The company’s clinical staff reaches patients and physicians in all 50 states.
