Brookfield raises $885 mln for debut infrastructure debt fund

Brookfield Asset Management has raised US$885 million ($1.1 billion) in the final close of its inaugural infrastructure debt fund, exceeding by 26 percent the fund’s US$700 million target. Brookfield Infrastructure Debt Fund (BID), which invests mezzanine debt in core infrastructure assets primarily located in North America, as well as South America, Australia and Europe, was backed by pension funds, financial institutions and other investors. BID has already made about US$200 million in lending commitments to a portfolio of transportation, renewable power and energy assets. Toronto-based Brookfield is an alternative asset manager.

Fund exceeds target due to strong investor demand

BROOKFIELD, NEWS, Jan. 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Brookfield Asset Management Inc. (“Brookfield”) (NYSE:BAM) (TSX:BAM.A) (Euronext:BAMA) announced today that it held the final close on the Brookfield Infrastructure Debt Fund (“BID” or the “Fund”) with aggregate equity commitments of approximately US$885 million, exceeding its target of US$700 million. BID is Brookfield’s first investment vehicle focused on infrastructure debt, targeting mezzanine debt investments in high-quality core infrastructure assets primarily in North America, as well as in South America, Australia, and Europe.

Investors in the Fund are a diverse group of institutional investors, including public pension plans and financial institutions.
