(Reuters) – Canpages Inc, a Canadian local search and directories publisher, said it agreed to acquire GigPark.com, an online social media platform, to beef up its local search website.
GigPark, which allows users to find local businesses and service providers through recommendations from friends, will help Canpages incorporate user recommendations into its search platform canpages.ca, Canpages said in a statement.
Canpages, owned by private equity firm HM Capital Partners, said the acquisition will also help its ImmersiFind network, which licenses its local online search platforms to directory publishers.
GigPark was founded in 2007 by Pema Hegan and Noah Godfrey, who will join the Canpages team in Toronto, it said.
Toronto-based GigPark is Canpages’ fourth acquisition this year. The other three were Ziplocal.ca, an online business search directory, ypOne Publishing’s PhoneGuide print and online directories and EZ Finder Phonebooks in five Alberta markets.
