PRESS RELEASE
Trident Capital, a national venture capital firm focusing on information technology, today announced that Dipika Chopra has joined Trident as a Venture Partner. Based in New Delhi, India, Chopra is responsible for identifying opportunities resulting from the rapid growth in India's domestic consumer services in industries such as media, technology, entertainment, retail and healthcare.
The Trident Capital team has been active in India for over 18 years, investing in early and growth opportunities to build international brands. Its business relationships and investments in India are focused on business process outsourcing, software, information services and media and include companies such as Cognizant Technology Solutions, eCredit, Microland, Neilsoft, OPI and Risk Management Solutions.
“Venture capital is a global business now, and it's increasingly important to be involved in the right emerging markets, with local, country-specific legal and business expertise,” said Trident Managing Director Venetia Kontogouris. “Dipika has a firm understanding of the changing business environment in India, and with both entrepreneurial and Fortune 500 executive experience, she's in an excellent position to identify new opportunities for Trident.”
Chopra has over 15 years of experience in marketing and operations in both Fortune 100 and start-up Internet companies. Prior to relocating to India, she was based in Silicon Valley as vice president of Clubmom Inc., where under her leadership, Clubmom grew from less than 10,000 to over 1 million members.
Prior to Chopra's entrepreneurial experiences, she held several senior leadership positions with Fortune 500 firms such as Pillsbury (now General Mills). At Pillsbury, she oversaw the consumer marketing strategy for the Asia Pacific region and also managed brand positioning, development, and marketing for several product lines. Dipika's first entrepreneurial experience came as co-founder of Orion Marketing, the first telemarketing company in India, which was acquired by Essar. She holds a B.A. and M.A. in Economics from University of Delhi, India and a Masters in International Business from Columbia University in New York.
“Trident has had significant involvement in various aspects of India-based outsourcing over the past decade, and I'm looking forward to continuing to make India an integral part of the company's portfolio strategy, both for existing portfolio companies and new investment opportunities,” noted Chopra.
