San Francisco-based venture capital firm DBL Investors has added Lisa Hagerman to the newly created position of director of its Double Bottom Line Programs. DBL also added two associates – Patrick Sagisi and Sarah Ham – to its team, following the recent close of its $140 million second fund. Hagerman joins DBL Investors from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where she led “More for Mission,” a research and advocacy initiative. Sagisi was previously a director in the corporate audit team of Samsung. Ham, previously an intern with DBL, recently completed an MBA from the Yale School of Management.

DBL Investors, a double bottom line venture capital firm, announced today that it has hired Lisa Hagerman as Director of Double Bottom Line Programs, a newly created position, and two Associates to round out its investment team following the recent closing of its second Fund.

DBL Investors makes investments in private, high growth companies that seek to optimize both financial return and positive social impact. Investments from the firm’s first Fund, such as BrightSource Energy, Livescribe, Pandora Media (NYSE: P), Powerlight (acquired by SunPower), Revolution Foods, SolarCity, and Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA) have created more than 5,000 Bay Area jobs to date and are leaders in workforce development programs, community engagement and environmental stewardship.

Lisa Hagerman joins DBL Investors from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where she led More for Mission, a research and advocacy initiative promoting mission investing that includes a network of 96 mission-driven foundations collectively representing $38 billion in assets. Previously, Ms. Hagerman was a Vice President at Economic Innovation International. Ms. Hagerman has ten years of banking experience, three with Wells Fargo Bank in Government Relations, and seven years with Citibank in the Latin American Marketing Division. Ms. Hagerman earned her PhD on Public Pension Fund Investment in Urban Revitalization from Oxford University, holds an M.A. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a B.A. from Bucknell University.

Ms. Hagerman will focus on working with DBL portfolio companies to articulate and implement their second bottom line practices across workforce development, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and company siting initiatives.

“An important part of DBL’s investment approach emphasizes social, environmental and regional economic benefits — what we call the second bottom line — as an intrinsic part of our business philosophy. Lisa’s experience and thought leadership in the growing field of impact investing are critical to DBL as we further develop this practice,” said Nancy E. Pfund, Managing Partner, DBL Investors.

Patrick Sagisi joins DBL as an Associate. Previously, he was a Director in the Corporate Audit Team of Samsung. Mr. Sagisi brings over 15 years of experience in the software, consumer electronics, semiconductor, and medical diagnostics industries working for such market leaders as Adobe Systems, Xerox PARC and Ventana Medical Systems. Mr. Sagisi earned his MBA and M.S. Manufacturing Systems degrees from Stanford University, and holds dual B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science and Materials Science from the University California at Berkeley. He is also a three-time Olympian in swimming and was Guam’s Opening Ceremonies Flag-bearer in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Games.

Sarah Ham began her venture capital career as an intern with DBL Investors and returned to the firm as an Associate after completing her MBA from the Yale School of Management, where she focused on entrepreneurship in developing markets, social innovation and investments. Ms. Ham recently led the design of and chaired the inaugural Yale SOM Education Business Plan Competition. Prior to Yale, Ms. Ham was the finance director for a congressional campaign and a marketing consultant with the MarketBridge Corporation. Ms. Ham received her B.A. from Stanford University.

“With the recent $140 million closing of our Fund II (backed by a mix of institutional investors such as pension funds, foundation investors, family offices, and banks receiving Community Reinvestment Act credits) we are continuing to strengthen the DBL team with technical and investment talent, and the ability to provide extra resources to our portfolio companies as they pursue their double bottom line strategy,” said Cynthia Ringo, Managing Partner DBL Investors.
