PRESS RELEASE
Duff & Phelps Corporation (NYSE: DUF), a leading independent financial advisory and investment banking firm, today announced that Chad Burns has joined as a managing director in the San Francisco office. Burns is a member of the Transaction Advisory Services practice, part of the Alternative Asset Advisory business. Formerly known as the Due Diligence practice, Transaction Advisory Services reflects the broad range of advice that the team provides buyers and sellers regarding the financial, tax, benefits, information technology, commercial and operational aspects of the due diligence process in the context of a complex transaction.
These developments follow a time of expansion for the practice, which has included the additions of Greg Chin and Geon Lee as managing directors in the Boston office; both joined from FTI Consulting.
“We are pleased to welcome new talent and position our practice so that we continue to provide exceptional technical and operational guidance to parties involved in the very active middle and upper-middle markets,” said Raphael “Ray” Newman, leader of the Transaction Advisory Services practice. “We are committed to serving our clients as trusted transaction advisors by facilitating the execution of sound business decisions.”
Working with private equity, hedge funds and strategic buyers and sellers, the Transaction Advisory Services team focuses on the most significant factors that determine the value of a business, which include deal-related issues, quality of earnings, synergies analysis, quality of working capital and cash flows. Comprised of professionals from some of the world’s largest accounting and advisory firms, the team is unencumbered by conflicts and independence issues; this allows due diligence services to be combined with other Duff & Phelps capabilities that include valuation, fairness opinions, tax advisory, dispute resolution and buy- and sell-side investment banking services. The team also offers post-transaction services, including purchase price allocations, integration services, working capital and purchase price adjustment mechanisms and advice related to complex disputes.
Chad Burns focuses on due diligence services and mergers and acquisitions advisory for private equity and corporate clients. He has more than 15 years of experience advising financial sponsors and companies on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, divestitures, capital raising and restructuring transactions with an aggregate value of more than $30 billion. His sector expertise encompasses technology, media, telecommunications, business services, and consumer and retail.
Prior to joining Duff & Phelps, Burns was a senior vice president in Houlihan Lokey’s San Francisco office, where he established and led the West Coast Transaction Advisory Services practice. Before this, Burns was a director in KPMG’s Transaction Services practice in New York City. Earlier he held finance and corporate development positions with technology companies Salesforce.com and NBCi. Burns started his career with KPMG in San Francisco in audit and capital markets advisory; in this role, he was involved in initial public offerings on NYSE and NASDAQ. Burns holds a M.B.A. in finance from Columbia Business School and a B.S. in accountancy with distinction from San Diego State University. A Certified Public Accountant, he is a member of the AICPA and the California Society of CPAs. He is registered with FINRA as a Limited Representative – Investment Banking (Series 79 and 63).
