Ex-CA CEO John Swainson Joins Silver Lake Partners

John Swainson, former CEO of Computer Associates, has joined Silver Lake Partners as a senior advisor. In other Silver Lake news, John Hoffman has joined the firm’s mid-market investment group (Sumeru) as a principal. He previously was a vice president with GTCR.


Silver Lake, the world’s leading investor in the technology industry announced today that John Swainson, former CEO of Computer Associates, has joined the firm as a Senior Advisor. In addition to serving as Chief Executive Officer of Computer Associates, Mr. Swainson was also a member of the company’s Board of Directors until 2009.

Before joining Computer Associates, Mr. Swainson spent 26 years at IBM, most recently as Vice President of Worldwide Sales for IBM’s Software Group. Earlier, as General Manager of the Application Integration and Middleware division, he and his team developed, marketed and launched the highly successful WebSphere family of middleware products. Mr. Swainson serves on the board of directors of VISA, Inc., Cadence Design Systems, and Assurant, Inc. Mr. Swainson will participate in and provide counsel on a full range of business development, professional networking, investment analysis, and value creation activities.
