Global Environment Fund appoints MD

Global Environment Fund has appointed Alexandre Alvim as a managing director on its Latin America investment team. Alvim was a co-founder and managing partner of Greentech Capital.


São Paulo, Brazil — Global Environment Fund (GEF) announced that Alexandre Alvim has joined its Latin America investment team as a Managing Director. He joins Anibal Wadih, and together they will oversee the firm’s investment programs in clean/renewable energy, resource efficiency and logistics in Latin America.

Mr. Alvim has over 15 years of private equity experience as an investor, board member and executive of various portfolio companies. For the past 8 years his focus has been in the environmental services and renewable energy sectors. Prior to GEF, Mr. Alvim was Executive Director of Energy and Business Development with private equity backed Estre Ambiental, Brazil’s largest environmental services company, where he led the firm’s waste-to-energy business. He was also a co-founder and Managing Partner of Greentech Capital, an investment and advisory firm in the clean tech and renewable energy sectors. Prior to forming Greentech, Mr. Alvim served in a variety of operating and consulting roles in the telecommunications sector in Brazil and the United States.

Mr. Alvim holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) and a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He has also completed the CEAG course at Fundação Getúlio Vargas.
