ILPA appoints Ontario Teachers’ Carmichael as new board chair

Institutional Limited Partners Association has named Tanya Carmichael as chair of its board of directors. Carmichael is the director of global funds, private capital at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Toronto-based ILPA is a member-driven organization focused on promoting the interests of private equity LPs.

November 6, 2015 (Toronto, ON) – The Institutional Limited Partners Association (“ILPA”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Tanya Carmichael, Director, Global Funds, Private Capital – Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, to the position of Chair of ILPA’s Board of Directors.

“It’s a privilege to serve with this dedicated group of professionals as ILPA looks to strengthen its research and educational offerings and continues to expand its global reach,” said Ms. Carmichael, whose appointment was effective November 3rd, 2015. “We are at a pivotal juncture in the development of our industry, and ILPA is well positioned to provide leadership in efforts to strengthen the asset class.”

Peter Freire, ILPA’s CEO, welcomed Ms. Carmichael’s appointment, stating, “We are excited and very fortunate to have Tanya at the helm of our Board. She brings to the role a wealth of experience in private equity and with the ILPA.”

In addition to Ms. Carmichael, the Board appointed the following returning Directors and members of the Executive Committee: Stephen Whatmore, Vice Chair (QIC Limited), Nicolas Drapeau, Secretary (Bimcor), Jennifer Kerr, Treasurer (Canada Pension Plan Investment Board), Fabrizio Natale, Chair, GP Summit Committee (Washington State Investment Board), Kimberly Woods, Chair, Industry Affairs Committee (IAM National Pension Fund), Maurice Gordon, Chair, Membership Committee (Guardian Life Insurance Corporation of America), and Neil Randall, Chair, Research, Benchmarking & Standards Committee (Teacher Retirement System of Texas).
New to the Board this year are Scott Jacobsen, Chair, Education Committee (The California Public Employees’ Retirement System, CalPERS), Serra Erdogmus (Canadian Medical Protective Association), Jennifer Magaña (SouthOcean Capital Partners), Rob Ross (California State Teachers’ Retirement System), and Anders Strömblad (AP2 – Second Swedish National Pension Fund), who were elected to the Board by the ILPA membership at its Annual General Meeting November 3rd, 2015. Continuing Members-at-Large are William Chu (Zurich Alternative Asset Management) and Maggie Radford (Bonanza Oil Company).
