Innova Capital has entered the market of specialist medical services in Poland through its investment in the “Ujastek” Gynaecological and Obstetrics Hospital. The Fund will spend more than PLN 150 million on building a medical group focusing on medical care for the mother and child.
Innova Capital (Innova), a leading Central European private equity fund, has invested in the Cracow-based “Ujastek” Gynaecological and Obstetrics Hospital. Innova, together with the Founders of “Ujastek”, intends to build a chain of hospitals and clinics providing advanced medical care in the area of gynaecology and obstetrics, pathology of pregnancy and neonatology, including, in particular, intensive care of new-born infants.
Innova Capital’s target equity commitment to the programme of acquisitions and integration in the sector may exceed PLN 150 million over two years.
“Our common vision is to create a platform of specialist services providing the highest level of safety for both the mother and child. The cooperation with Ujastek’s current team will enable us to create a national network of specialized, well-equipped and patient-friendly clinics and hospitals. In the world of advanced medicine, we have entered the area of obstetrics in Poland with outstanding experts. In return, we provide our management skills, financing and an additional support at work,” declares Krzysztof Krawczyk, Managing Partner at Innova Capital.
The “Ujastek” hospital is distinguished by its unique medical model emphasizing safety of the mother and child, its huge technological and skills support facilities, as well as the specialist services in intensive care of new-born infants provided at the highest reference level III. “Ujastek’s” strong position in southern Poland is a result of patient confidence, a team of doctors with the best reputation, stable cooperation with National Health Fund (all treatments conducted at Ujastek are reimbursed) and the growing need for improved safety and care of the mother and child.
“Poland needs to develop modern obstetrics and neonatology. The safety of mothers and new-born infants is a distinctive feature of developed countries, to which we have aimed. Unfortunately, there are still regions in Poland where maternity care for the mother and child is not at such a level as doctors and patients would expect. Access to obstetrics wards providing intensive care to new-born infants is inadequate. We want to change this. We have found partners who will help us transfer our proven model of medical activity and know-how to other regions of Poland,” says Marek Kowalski MD, joint founder of the Ujastek Hospital, specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics.
The supply of advanced neonatology services in Poland is still inadequate. According to Central Statistical Office data, the ratio of the number of infant deaths per 1000 live births was 5.2‰ in Poland in 2010. In comparison, in Sweden, it is currently 3.1‰, in Norway – 3.2‰, in the Czech Republic – 3.7‰, in France – 4.1‰, in Germany – 4.3‰ and in Great Britain – 4.7‰.
The development of modern obstetrics wards with intensive neonatology care and renowned doctors, having top quality equipment can change this situation.
