Irish Finance Minister: PE Interest in Banks Welcome

DUBLIN, Nov 27 (Reuters) – All expressions of private interest in Irish banks are welcomed, Finance Minister Brian Lenihan said on Thursday, after a group announced it was interested in co-investing with the state in a recapitalisation.

“I welcome all expressions of private interest in Irish banks because it’s a sign people are willing to invest in this country,” Lenihan told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Dublin.

Lenihan said he will meet on Friday with the heads of six Irish institutions, including the country’s four listed banks that signed up for the government’s two-year guarantee plan for further talks.
