Jens Tonn has joined Vestar Capital Partners, where he will launch and run a new office in Munich, Germany. He previously was a managing director with Candover, where he was responsible for German operations.
Vestar Capital Partners, a leading global private equity firm, is continuing to expand its footprint in the European market. The firm recently announced the opening of its third European location with a new office in Munich, Germany. The company has entrusted Jens Tonn with the task of heading the Germany office, and will start off initially with a team of four. Mr. Tonn will work to develop the private equity company's business in the German-speaking region.
Vestar Capital Partners currently manages funds of approximately $7 billion and provides capital for management buyout and growth capital investments. The company's investment strategy is focused on companies in the US, Europe and Asia with valuations ranging from $100 million up to $5 billion. Since the company was founded in 1988, it has made over 60 investments in the US and Europe with a total value of approximately $20 billion.
With the opening of its Munich office, Vestar Capital will now be represented by three offices in Continental Europe including its current teams in Paris and Milan. Vestar Capital is thereby taking another step towards consolidating its global network. With offices in the US, Europe and Asia, the firm is able to support its business partners which increasingly operate on an international basis, in the most important parts of the world with local teams that have close links to the market.
Jens Tonn has many years of experience working in the private equity sector. He comes to Vestar Capital after nine successful years at Candover where most recently he was managing director with responsibility for the company's German operation. Before Candover, Mr. Tonn was the head of mergers & acquisitions for Germany and Austria at Citicorp. Previous to that, he was a project manager in the private equity division of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt where he oversaw a large number of buyout and M&A projects. Mr. Tonn is a graduate of the European Business School in London. Joining him in Vestar Capital's Munich office will be Daniel Boege, who joins Vestar Capital as a Vice President having spent five years with the private equity fund Permira.
