Job of the Week: Managing the Mid-Market with H.I.G Capital

Looking for a position as a private equity associate with a focus on the mid-market? Global private investment firm H.I.G Capital is seeking a Miami-based private equity associate to take a central role in all aspects of the investment process.

A bit of background on the firm if you’re thinking of applying. Based in Miami, and with offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York, and San Francisco in the US and international affiliate offices in London, Hamburg, Madrid, Paris, and Rio de Janeiro, H.I.G. specializes in providing capital to small and medium-sized companies. The H.I.G. family of funds includes private equity, growth equity, debt/credit, real estate, public equities and life sciences.

In recent moves at the firm, H.I.G. Capital managing director Peter Cornetta recently left to join venture capital fund Highland Consumer Fund as a managing general partner. Cornetta was based in the firm’s Boston office and joined H.I.G. Capital in 2003 as a member of the firm’s leverage buyout group. Prior to joining H.I.G., he was a principal with Advent International.

According to the job description, associates at the firm generally take “a central role in supporting the evaluation, structuring, negotiation, and financing of our transactions, as well as in the monitoring of portfolio companies.” The successful candidate will work with “a small deal team in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment, and have constant interaction with the most senior members of the firm, as well as the senior management of portfolio companies.”

The ideal candidate will have “two or three years experience in investment banking, preferably with an M&A or industry group, or in management consulting,” according to the job description.

Compensation will be at market rate. According to the 2011-2012 Holt – Thomson Reuters Private Equity and Venture Capital Compensation Report the average associate base salary within an LBO/growth equity firm would be around $103,000 and $187,200 with bonus and carry distribution.
