Karl Beinkampen has joined Wilshire Associates as chief investment officer of Wilshire Private Markets. He previously was with Morgan Stanley as managing director of the Alternative Investment Partners group.
Private capital veteran Karl Beinkampen has been named chief investment officer of Wilshire Private Markets, announced Kevin Nee, president of Wilshire Private Markets. Beinkampen joins Wilshire Associates from Morgan Stanley, where he was a managing director of the firm’s Alternative Investment Partners team.
In his new role, Beinkampen will bring his 21 years of private capital and capital markets experience and guide the investment efforts of Wilshire Private Markets in order to best serve the portfolio needs of global institutional investors. The group currently has five offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia, and manages nearly $6 billion of client assets, investing and serving clients within each of those regions.
“Karl’s 18 years of experience working with private equity sponsors makes him an outstanding addition to our global team,” said Nee. “His background includes investing in underlying partnerships and portfolio companies, managing portfolios and investment professionals, and helping to build a highly regarded business at Morgan Stanley.”
Immediately prior to joining Wilshire Private Markets, Beinkampen spent 15 years with Morgan Stanley. He began working with LBO sponsors in 1995, leading equity, fixed income and acquisition finance transactions. He was recruited from within the firm to build Morgan Stanley’s private equity fund of funds business shortly after its inception in 2000. While a member of Alternative Investment Partners, he led private equity partnership and co-investment programs, as he also executed his portfolio management responsibilities. He was a member of that division’s business and investment committees. Earlier in his career, he worked with Scully Brothers & Foss, as well as Kidder Peabody & Co.
A cum laude graduate of Princeton University with a degree in Economics, Beinkampen received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School with a dual degree in Finance and Operations Management.
