(Reuters) – A unit of private equity firm Kohlberg & Co said on Thursday it acquired a maker of lacrosse equipment for an undisclosed amount, adding to holdings that include ice hockey equipment maker Bauer Hockey.
Kohlberg Sports Group Inc said Maverik Lacrosse and Bauer Hockey will operate independently while sharing information in such areas as manufacturing, product development and distribution.
Maverik, which will remain based in Long Island City, New York, was founded in 2005 by lacrosse player John Gagliardi, who will remain as chief executive, Kohlberg Sports said. Bauer Hockey was purchased from Canadian businessman W. Graeme Rouston in 2008.
Kohlberg Sports is not the Mt. Kisco, New York-based private equity firm’s only sports-related holding. In January 2009, Kohlberg & Co acquired for $210 million, hospitality company Centerplate, which handles food service and concession sales at numerous venues around the country, including sports stadiums, airports and convention centers.
