Los Angeles, April 4, 2022 – Atwater Capital LLC (“Atwater”), the media and entertainment-focused alternative investment firm, announces the appointment of Carol Lim as Principal.

Founded by Vania Schlogel in 2017, Atwater invests exclusively in the media and entertainment sectors, partnering with management teams across North America, Europe and Asia. Carol will play a key role in supporting an ambitious investment strategy focused on connecting strategic LPs with forward-looking companies. She will be based at the firm’s Los Angeles headquarters.

Carol joins Atwater from Digital Alpha Advisors, a private equity firm focused on the technology sector. Prior to that, Carol was at Liberty Media Corporation where she was responsible for evaluating investments across the media, entertainment and communications landscape. She began her career as an investment banking analyst within the M&A group at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Carol graduated Summa Cum Laude from University of California, Los Angeles.

Vania Schlogel, Managing Partner & Founder of Atwater Capital, said: “We are delighted to welcome Carol to the team. Her sector expertise and fantastic investment track record will prove invaluable as we pursue new opportunities and expand our global reach.”

Carol Lim, Principal at Atwater Capital, added: “Atwater is well-known for its distinctive, purpose-led investment approach and collaborative culture, and I am thrilled to be joining the firm at such an exciting time. I look forward to working with the team to execute on differentiated deals and to drive value for Atwater’s portfolio companies.”

Carol joins a team with deep experience and connections across the media, entertainment and finance sectors, including Directors, Seb Webber, the former Chief Creative Officer of Tidal, and Ally Park, who has over 19 years’ experience in the financial services sector; and Principal, Meri Khananashvili, a former executive at Creative Artists Agency.

Atwater currently manages approximately $200 million in assets. The firm closed its inaugural unicorn deal in March 2021 following the partial exit of its early-stage investment in Epidemic Sound, the market-leading platform for restriction-free music, in a transaction that valued the company at $1.4 billion. In June 2021, the firm sold its stake in wiip Productions, the independent studio behind Golden Globe-winning The Mare of Easttown, to South Korean TV and film production firm JTBC Studios. The firm’s portfolio also includes LEONINE Studios, Mediawan, 88Rising, GfK, MadRiver Pictures, and Freepik.

Focused exclusively on the Media and Entertainment sectors, Atwater Capital was founded with the vision of uniting the valuable creative aspects of evaluating investments and growing companies with deep operational and financial expertise under one roof and one team. Going against the status quo of traditionally segregating these critical activities, Atwater seeks to extract the synergies of applying quantitative rigor to creative strategy on behalf of our portfolio companies and stakeholders. Atwater Capital brings a track record of excellence in operational and financial strategy to deliver tangible results. Whether through optimizing operational processes, unlocking business development opportunities, delivering an extensive network of influencers to create authentic messaging, or digitizing away from ineffective and capital-intensive traditional branding activities — Atwater brings nimble and disruptive strategies to our investments.
