Logicworks, a provider of enterprise hosting and cloud computing solutions, has named George Kerns as its chief executive officer. Previously, Kerns served as president and chief executive of Fusepoint Managed Services, an enterprise hosting provider. Earlier in his career, Kerns served as president and chief executive of Digex, an enterprise hosting company. Logicworks is backed by investors including New York City-based private equity firm Seaport Capital.
The Board of Directors of Logicworks, a leading provider of enterprise managed hosting and cloud computing for high-availability applications and content, today announced the appointment of industry veteran George Kerns as the company’s Chief Executive Officer. This news follows a recent announcement of Logicworks’ financial partner, Seaport Capital, investing $7.6 million into the company earlier this year.
“Logicworks has reached a scale and operating sophistication that makes it incredibly well positioned to benefit from the infection point that’s upon us in the hosting and cloud industry”
Kerns brings significant leadership experience within the enterprise managed hosting industry to Logicworks along with a track record of successful senior management positions dating back to the birth of the commercial internet.
Most recently, Kerns served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Fusepoint Managed Services, an enterprise hosting provider for companies with applications requiring the highest levels of security and availability. In his role as CEO, he led the company to substantial year-over-year growth and margin expansion from 2005 through its successful sale to Savvis in 2010. Prior to Fusepoint, Kerns served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Digex, an enterprise hosting pioneer with approximately $180 million in revenue. Kerns oversaw Digex through its acquisition by MCI in 2003.
Logicworks has averaged double-digit annual growth over the past five years. From 2004 through 2007, it began focusing exclusively on enterprise managed hosting and compliance built around its managed database service offerings for Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL. In 2007, Logicworks was first to market to offer private cloud hosting on VMware as a flexible and scalable infrastructure platform for established Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) providers and high-traffic media sites. In 2010, the company launched end-to-end PCI compliant hosting solutions for online retailers and also launched its public cloud computing platform, InfiniCloud™, to meet the dynamic computing needs of clients demanding greater performance and reliability than typically offered by mass-market, mainstream providers. InfiniCloud also enabled Logicworks’ clients to deploy hybrid-cloud infrastructures with managed cloud services.
“Over the past decade, Logicworks has evolved from a regional services provider to a leading global provider of enterprise hosting and cloud solutions,” said Carter Burden, Logicworks’ Founder and Chief Strategy Officer. “With traditional enterprises accelerating cloud adoption the timing couldn’t be better to expand our company. George brings an unmatched track-record of success within the managed hosting industry and as our CEO will help us advance our mission to be a world class service organization with lasting meaning within the technology services landscape.”
Burden, who served as Logicworks’ CEO from 1993 through 2010, will continue in his current role as Chief Strategy Officer. Kenneth Ziegler will also continue to serve as President and Chief Operating Officer. Kerns will join Burden, Ziegler, and Bill Luby of Seaport Capital on Logicworks’ Board of Directors.
At both Fusepoint and Digex, and earlier in his career at BBN, GTE Internetworking, EDS Personal Communications, GTE Mobile Communications and Contel Cellular, Kerns was recognized for strengthening operations, driving customer value, and building momentum to accelerate growth. His commitment to delivering results and intimate knowledge of complex hosting operations will help enhance the client experience at Logicworks.
“Logicworks has reached a scale and operating sophistication that makes it incredibly well positioned to benefit from the infection point that’s upon us in the hosting and cloud industry,” said Kerns. “I am thrilled to bring my industry experience to a company with such a long-standing and impressive base of blue-chip clients, an unparalleled reputation for quality, an integrated service platform, and an industry-leading engineering team. I’m excited to join Carter, Ken, and the Logicworks team to help bring our capabilities and market reach to new heights.”
