Maurice Gordon has joined Guardian Life Insurace Co. of America as a senior manager of private equity investments. He previously served in a similar role with The Hartford Insurance Co.
The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian) announced today that Maurice A. Gordon has joined the company as a senior investment manager. Gordon brings more than 20 years experience in private equity investing and portfolio management and will continue the execution of Guardian’s private equity investment initiative with specific responsibility for fund investing, co-investing and secondaries. He will report to David Turner, head of private equity at Guardian.

Gordon has successfully originated and led more than two dozen direct and co-investment transactions and has managed institutional private equity portfolios totaling over $4.5 billion in a variety of situations. These include buyout, venture capital, mezzanine and special situation partnerships, hedge funds, private placements and small-cap stock distributions. He has served on 23 company boards of directors and fund advisory boards. Previously, he spent over six years as a senior manager of a Chicago-based co-investment fund and was a managing director of The Hartford Insurance Company’s private equity investment group, heading an $800 million diversified private equity portfolio. Additionally, Gordon was the managing general partner for the CIGNA Investment Corporation’s mezzanine limited partnerships. He began his investment career at The Northern Trust Bank in Chicago. He earned B.A. and M.S. degrees in Economics from the University of Illinois, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
