Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy Names New Partners

Law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy has elected four new partners: Jacqueline Su-Lynn Chan, Daniel Michalchuk, Atara Miller and Nicholas Smith. The new partners are working in the firm’s Singapore and New York offices.

International law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP has announced the election of four partners: Jacqueline Su-Lynn Chan, Daniel J. Michalchuk, Atara Miller and Nicholas A. Smith to the firm’s Singapore and New York offices effective January 1, 2012.

New York

Daniel J. Michalchuk is a member of the Global Project Finance Group. Mr. Michalchuk has represented project sponsors and financial institutions in numerous domestic and international project financings and in projects across various industries. He received a B.A. from Queen’s University, Canada, an M.A. in International Relations from Carleton University, Canada, an LL.B. from University of Ottawa, Canada and an LL.M. in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University Law Center.

Atara Miller is a member of the Litigation Group. Her practice encompasses a wide range of complex commercial litigation involving international, bankruptcy, corporate governance and securities matters. Ms. Miller was a founding member of Milbank’s Women’s Affinity Group and has taken a leading role in the Milbank Women’s Initiative, which organizes events to strengthen the firm-wide network of women attorneys. She is admitted to practice before the Bar of the State of New York, the Bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and various federal district and appellate courts. Ms. Miller received her B.A. in Civil Law and LL.B., with Great Distinction, from McGill University, Faculty of Law.

Nicholas A. Smith is a member of the Technology and Corporate Groups. He focuses on advising companies on complex commercial and corporate transactions, including IT and business process outsourcing transactions and application development and maintenance projects. Mr. Smith also has advised clients in transactions to develop technology-intensive infrastructure and customer-facing functions, including projects ranging from the development of custom-built communications networks to electronic health record solutions. He received a B.A. from the University of Iowa and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.


Jacqueline Chan is a member of the Global Project Finance Group. Ms. Chan advises on a wide range of international corporate and commercial finance and merger-and-acquisition transactions, and specializes in leading and structuring complex transactions for international clients both within and outside of Southeast Asia. Her transactional experience includes mergers and acquisitions, leveraged finance, acquisition finance, structured debt financing, restructurings, capital markets and other corporate transactions. She regularly represents international private equity firms, corporations and leading banks and financial institutions, among others. Ms. Chan holds an LL.B. from the National University of Singapore. She is admitted to practice law in Singapore, England and Wales.
