OMERS Infrastructure acquires 25 pct stake in Europe’s VTG

OMERS Infrastructure has acquired a 25 percent indirect shareholder stake in VTG AG, a Hamburg, Germany-based rail-car leasing and rail logistics company.

No financial terms were disclosed.

Established in 1951, VTG provides transportation infrastructure in Europe. Also backed by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners, it has a portfolio of about 94,000 wagons serving more than 1,000 customers.

The deal marks the second infrastructure investment in Germany by OMERS, a $97 billion Canadian pension fund.


OMERS Becomes Shareholder in VTG AG

London/Hamburg, June 11, 2019 – OMERS, the defined benefit pension plan for municipal employees in the Province of Ontario (Canada) is pleased to become a 25% indirect shareholder in VTG AG (“VTG” or “Company”), the largest railcar leasing and rail logistics company in Europe.

Today’s news marks OMERS second infrastructure investment in Germany, following its earlier 2015 investment in Tank & Rast, the country’s leading provider of motorway services. In 2017, Oxford Properties, OMERS real estate investment arm, acquired the Sony Center in Berlin.
