Origin Ventures closes $47 mln for third fund

Origin Ventures said Wednesday that it has raised $47 million in the final close of its third fund. The pool will focus on Series A financing for companies in software, e-commerce, digital media and ad technology. Origin Ventures is an early-stage venture capital firm based in Northbrook, Illinois.

Chicago, IL – November 20, 2013. Origin Ventures, a Chicago-based early stage venture capital firm, today announced the final close of its latest fund, Origin Ventures III LP. The $47M fund, which was launched in January 2013, will focus on Series A financing for companies in software, e-commerce, digital media and ad technology. The Origin investment team has completed five investments out of Fund III to date, including Aisle50, Iris Mobile, Whittl, DoggyLoot and City Scan.
Origin’s previous investments include several market-leading companies, including GrubHub Seamless, ifbyphone, Shoutlet, ClaimForce and Campus Explorer.

Origin previously announced significant additions to its management team. Brent Hill joined Origin in early 2013 as a Principal after a successful career as an entrepreneur and operating executive at Twitter, Google and FeedBurner. Origin added Eric Olson as an Associate in October 2013. Eric joins Origin after serving as an investor, founder and early team member at DFJ Portage Ventures, TECH cocktail and FeedBurner, respectively.
