Holmdel, N.J.-based Cosmetic Essence, which is backed by private investment firm Littlejohn & Co., has named Peter Martin as its chief executive officer. Martin served in various roles at Captive Plastics from 1996 to 2008, most recently as president and C.E.O. Cosmetic Essence provides contract manufacturing and supply chain management services for the cosmetics, personal care and household products industries. Littlejohn is based in Greenwich, Conn.
Cosmetic Essence, LLC, a leading provider of contract manufacturing and supply chain management services for the cosmetics, personal care and household products industries, today announced the appointment of Peter G. Martin as its Chief Executive Officer. He will also become a member of the company’s Board of Directors.
A proven growth oriented operating executive with nearly 30 years of success building profitable companies and leading strong management teams, Mr. Martin has expertise in building efficient operations, growing market share and successfully integrating strategic acquisitions. His experience spans multiple industries and he has significant experience working successfully within the structure of the private equity ownership model.

Mr. Martin succeeds Vincent Langone, who served as interim CEO since the company was recapitalized. Mr. Simon added that the Board was appreciative of Mr. Langone’s leadership and of the contribution he has made to the company since it was recapitalized last fall. Mr. Langone said, “We are pleased that Peter has agreed to join Cosmetic Essence and we are confident that his experience, strong executive skills and leadership will accelerate its growth well into the future.”
Mr. Martin served with Captive Plastics, Inc. from 1996 to 2008, most recently as its President and CEO. Captive was sold to Berry Plastics in 2008. From 1981 to 1996, he served in senior sales and marketing positions with Continental Can Company. He received his degree from Colgate University.
Cosmetic Essence also named Benoit Cossart as Senior Vice President, Global Operations. Mr. Cossart has extensive experience and has served in senior positions with leading contract manufacturing organizations in the pharmaceutical industry, and pharmaceutical packaging service businesses. Mr. Cossart was most recently Vice President and General Manager of the Commercial Packaging business of Catalent Pharma Solutions. Prior to that he was President & CEO of the U.S. subsidiary of LTS Lohmann Therapy Systems. He is a graduate of I.C.A.M. Engineering College in France.
