Xplornet Acquires Platinum Communications, Serving More Broadband Customers in Alberta
WOODSTOCK, NB, Dec. 15, 2015 /CNW/ – Xplornet Communications Inc., Canada’s leading rural high-speed Internet service provider, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Platinum Communications Corporation. Located in Calgary Alberta, Platinum is one of Alberta’s farthest-reaching providers of broadband services to remote locations.
“We’re delighted to welcome Platinum customers to the Xplornet family,” said Mr. Allison Lenehan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Xplornet Communications Inc. “This acquisition increases our fixed wireless broadband footprint in Alberta and supports our company’s mission to make affordable, fast and reliable broadband Internet services available to every rural Canadian.”
Platinum will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Xplornet. Mr. Lenehan noted that the acquisition of Platinum also gives Xplornet a new business unit focused on commercial and enterprise opportunities. Leveraging Xplornet’s national reach and unique combination of LTE and 4G satellite solutions, Xplornet Commercial Services will help design and deliver solutions across rural industry sectors such as oil & gas, agriculture, forestry, mining, and telecommunications.
“With the complementary rural Internet expertise that we share, the new relationship provides tremendous value for Platinum customers who will benefit from Xplornet’s national capabilities and customer-first focus,” added Bill Macdonald, Executive Vice President, Business Development.
The Platinum acquisition aligns well with Xplornet’s roll-out of its leading-edge Long Term Evolution (LTE) fixed wireless network in Alberta over the next year. “It will give Platinum customers and other rural Albertans the opportunity to enjoy the next generation of robust Internet service so they can do more of what they love online,” said Lenehan today.
