Penton Media, which is backed by MidOcean Partners and Wasserstein & Co., has appointed Nicola Allais as executive vice president and CFO. Allais replaces Jen Clifton who left in August. Penton, of New York, is a business-to-business media company.
Sharon Rowlands, chief executive officer of Penton Media announced today the appointment of Nicola Allais as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Mr. Allais replaces Jean Clifton who announced in August that she planned to leave the company to focus on strategic finance operations and transactions.

“Nicola brings to Penton significant financial, management and media savvy,” said Ms. Rowlands. “We look forward to him joining the senior management team as we now focus on new product development and acquisitions, while building our digital and live event offerings. Mr. Allais was most recently CFO of Downtown Music, a leading independent music company. Prior to that, he worked for Primedia from 2001 through 2007 where he held several positions including senior vice president, strategy and operations, and vice president, planning and analysis for all of Primedia, and group CFO for the Lifestyles Group. He began his career at Primedia as a business manager in the B2B Group which today forms a portion of Penton. Prior to joining Primedia, he held positions at Brill Media Ventures, Home Box Office and Ernst and Young.

Mr. Allais will be based in Penton’s New York headquarters. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from Princeton University.
