Evercore Partners Inc. (NYSE: EVR) announced today that Qazi Fazal has joined the firm’s restructuring advisory practice as a Senior Managing Director. Mr. Fazal, who will be based in New York, will work with William Repko, David Ying, Daniel Celentano and Stephen Sieh in expanding Evercore’s restructuring advisory business.
“Qazi is a highly respected and experienced banker and a key addition to our restructuring advisory practice,” said Roger C. Altman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Evercore Partners. “That business is doing well, better than it ever has, and I expect it to move upward from here. These next several years will be favorable for the restructuring business, which is especially well-suited for boutiques.”
Mr. Fazal was most recently at Miller Buckfire & Co. where he was a Managing Director and a member of the management committee. Mr. Fazal has been involved in numerous restructuring, financing and strategic advisory assignments across various industries, including advising: Paul Allen/Vulcan Ventures on matters relating to Charter Communications’ $20 billion balance sheet; Imperial Sugar on its $700 million restructuring; and Focal Communications on its $400 million restructuring and subsequent sale, among other notable transactions.
“I am excited to join Evercore as it continues building out its world class restructuring advisory practice at a time when more and more corporations are in need of creative, unconflicted advice,” said Mr. Fazal. “Evercore has some of the most experienced and well regarded advisors in the restructuring industry and the firm is highly respected for its collaborative culture and broad depth of senior bankers who are the leading experts in their industry practices. I look forward to working with all of my new partners and providing clients with advice they can trust and the resources of a firm with deep restructuring and industry expertise. I am also pleased to have the opportunity to work again with David Ying, who I have known for a number of years.”
Mr. Fazal was previously a member of the financial restructuring group of Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein and its predecessor firm Wasserstein Perella & Co., which he joined in 1996. Mr. Fazal is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College, where he received an A.B. in Economics.
