Reed Leaves CRV

Sarah Reed has joined Lowenstein Sandler as a partner, marking the opening of the venture/tech law firm's Boston office. She previously was general counsel at Charles River Ventures.

Lowenstein Sandler's Tech Group, one of the nation's leading venture and technology law practices, announced today that Sarah Reed has joined the firm as a partner, marking the opening of Lowenstein's Boston office.

Ms. Reed is among the best known venture attorneys in the country and is the only attorney to have received the National Venture Capital Association's Outstanding Service Award. Most recently she was General Counsel to venture fund Charles River Ventures, with offices in both Boston and Silicon Valley, where she served in that capacity for nearly eight years.

“Sarah's work as the Founder and Chair of the NVCA's Model Legal Documents Project has firmly established her as one of the thought leaders in executing venture deals and has changed the way venture deals are done across the country,” said Edward M. Zimmerman, Chairman of Lowenstein's Tech Group. “We've known and worked with Sarah for years, and are proud that Sarah has chosen to join our team,” said Zimmerman.

Ms. Reed has had a wide array of professional experience, having served as General Counsel for a hi-tech public company and as an associate at a large Boston law firm before coming to Charles River Ventures. She graduated with honors from both Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and attended Fudan University in Shanghai and the Stanford Center for Advanced Chinese Language Study in Taiwan. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Ms. Reed is just the latest in a series of high profile additions for Lowenstein in the venture and technology space. In 2005, Lowenstein added Mary J. Hildebrand (formerly Chair of the IP Transactions and Strategies Group for Goodwin Procter, Hildebrand worked out of Goodwin's New York office). Earlier in 2005, Mark P. Kesslen joined the group, having previously served as a Managing Director at JPMorganChase, where he ran Technology, Sourcing & Intellectual Property for the Legal Department worldwide.

Said Ms. Reed, “Lowenstein has not only been doing venture and private equity deals and adding talent at a remarkable rate, they have been providing creative leadership in the venture arena for both funds and portfolio companies. Given the number of venture funds in Boston already represented by Lowenstein, it was time for the firm to solidify their Boston presence.”

“Having someone we know so well who has attained this level of accomplishment will enable us to deliver even greater value to our private equity and venture fund clients as well as the portfolio companies and entrepreneurs we represent,” said Michael Rodburg, Lowenstein Sandler's Managing Partner.

Lowenstein's Tech Group now numbers over 45 attorneys representing the country's leading venture funds, successful entrepreneurs and universities in all areas of science and technology.

“In working with Lowenstein over the past years, I have been very impressed by Lowenstein's pragmatic approach to legal issues and extremely high level of client service, and believe that working with them will make me an even better lawyer and provide me with a lot of bench strength. In turn, I hope that Lowenstein's present and future clients will benefit from my experience, expertise and resourcefulness,” said Reed.
