The Riverside Company, a global private equity firm, said on Monday that it has acquired the Emergency Notification division of Global Connect to its Emergency Communications Network, LLC. platform. No financial terms were disclosed. Global Connect’s Emergency Notification division serves government customers on the East Coast. ECN is a provider of time-sensitive communication delivery for government clients. Kirkland & Ellis LLP advised Riverside on the transaction.
The Riverside Company has added the Emergency Notification division of Global Connect to its Emergency Communications Network, LLC. (ECN) platform. The acquisition expands ECN’s network of government clients and strengthens its leadership position in the northeast. ECN is the largest provider of critical, time-sensitive communication delivery for government clients. ECN’s systems distribute warnings, information about natural disasters, and other vital information to citizens based on their location.
“This is a great fit for ECN, and another chapter in the growth story of the company,” said Riverside Partner Chris Jones. “These new clients will soon enjoy a more feature-rich, intuitive and powerful tool through ECN’s CodeRED product.”
CodeRED is ECN’s patented, hosted software service, which allows clients to quickly and easily target messages to exact geographic areas or contact groups. In 2012 alone, the ECN platform was used to deliver more than 100 million critical notifications, with millions recently delivered on behalf of northeast clients impacted by the Boston Marathon explosions.
Global Connect’s Emergency Notification division primarily serves government customers on the East Coast, and has hundreds of municipalities and other government customers.
This acquisition further cements ECN’s market leadership in reliable delivery of time-sensitive communications. ECN has more than 15 years of experience in the mass notification industry and a client base throughout North America. Riverside plans to continue building the company organically and through add-ons.
“We’re excited about the future,” said ECN President David DiGiacomo. “Less than two years after Riverside invested in our company, we’ve already completed four add-on acquisitions and our position in the market has never been stronger.”
“Our partnership with Riverside allows us to continue innovating multimodal communication solutions and exceed industry standards and our clients’ needs while providing services that we know have saved lives. We look forward to transitioning these clients onto a proven system that will only enhance public safety in our clients’ communities,” said ECN President David DiGiacomo.
Working with Jones on the transaction for Riverside were Martha Sciaraffo, Vice President; Brad Roberts, Senior Associate and Max Moehlmann, Associate.
Kirkland & Ellis LLP advised Riverside on the deal.
