SecondMarket Names Scott Murphy to Board

SecondMarket, a platform for access to alternative investments, has added Scott Murphy to the company’s board of directors. Murphy is a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives for New York’s 20th Congressional District. He also worked for many years as a VC at Advantage Capital Partners.

SecondMarket, the leading platform for access to alternative investments, announced today that Scott Murphy, a serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, has joined the company’s board of directors.

Murphy’s professional experience complements a number of SecondMarket’s core business functions and policy efforts.  Murphy began his career in finance before founding several technology startups in the 1990s, including an online auction platform.  From 2001 to 2009, Murphy worked as a venture capitalist at Advantage Capital Partners, where he invested in and helped build technology-based businesses.  Murphy then represented New York’s 20th Congressional District, where he was a strong advocate for economic policies to promote the creation and development of startups and other small businesses.  His congressional focus aligns closely with SecondMarket’s continuous public policy efforts to improve the regulatory framework for the U.S. startup community.

Murphy is a graduate of Harvard University with a B.A. in Social Studies.
