Sidley Austin Adds Palo Alto Partners

Yabo Lin has joined the Palo Alto office of law firm Sidley Austin LLP as a partner. He previously was a partner with Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP.

Sidley Austin LLP is pleased to announce that Yabo Lin has joined the firm as a partner in the Palo Alto office. Mr. Lin focuses his practice on representing companies in their corporate, acquisition, securities offering, joint venture and compliance work. He represents telecommunications, software, manufacturing and renewable energy companies, as well as private equity, venture capital and investment banking businesses.

Born and raised in China, Mr. Lin was a licensed lawyer in China before moving to the U.S. He will spend time in both Sidley’s Palo Alto office and in China, counseling U.S. clients on cross-border investments in Asia as well as representing Chinese clients investing abroad.

“We are extraordinarily pleased to be able to add a lawyer as talented and versatile as Yabo to our team here in Palo Alto,” said Tom DeFilipps, Managing Partner of Sidley’s Palo Alto office. “Yabo has a rare combination of skills and experience that has allowed him to represent companies in Silicon Valley and elsewhere in their U.S. transactions, as well as U.S.-based companies doing business in China and China-based companies doing business in the U.S. As companies increase their global focus, Sidley is particularly well-positioned to serve all of their needs. ”

“Yabo Lin is a terrific addition to our already outstanding team of lawyers who focus on cross-border transactions involving the Asia-Pacific region and the U.S.,” commented Tom Albrecht, a member of the firm’s Management Committee and Managing Partner for the firm’s six offices in the Asia-Pacific region. “Yabo’s legal background and experience in China and the U.S. will be very valuable to our clients as we continue to enhance our already strong cross-border capabilities in light of China’s fast growing and increasingly global economy, and he will provide a further link between our Palo Alto office and our technology-focused clients in the Asia-Pacific region.”

“Sidley provides a global platform that will allow me to enhance the services I provide to international companies and investors,” said Mr. Lin. “The firm’s long-standing and respected presence in Asia, its breadth of global regulatory experience and the depth of its capital markets and merger and acquisition work complement the focus of my practice. I am particularly pleased to be joining friends and former colleagues at Sidley, like David Hill, co-head of the energy practice. ”

Sidley’s Palo Alto Office. Sidley established its Palo Alto office in late 2009 with veteran lawyers who understand the process of innovation. The Palo Alto office focuses on corporate, technology transactions and IP litigation matters for emerging and established companies, including companies in the information technology, digital media, life sciences and clean tech industries. In serving their clients, the lawyers in the Palo Alto office collaborate with Sidley’s well-recognized practices in areas such as capital markets and government regulation, as well as Sidley’s global platform, which includes six offices in Asia and four in Europe.

Sidley’s Asia-Pacific Practice. Sidley has had an established presence in the Asia-Pacific region for more than 25 years. It was one of the first U.S. firms to offer Hong Kong, English and U.S. law capabilities to clients. Within the region, the firm currently has offices in Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo. Our lawyers have worked on some of Asia’s most complex and high-profile debt, equity, restructuring and private equity transactions. The firm’s Asia-Pacific practice has been awarded numerous honors, including being named “Most Innovative U.S. Law Firm” by IFLR earlier this year.

Sidley Austin LLP is one of the world’s largest full-service law firms, with approximately 1700 lawyers practicing in 17 U.S. and international cities, including Beijing, Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hong Kong, London, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo. Every year since 2003, Sidley has been named to Legal Business’ Global Elite, its designation for the 18 firms “that define the pinnacle of the legal profession.” Sidley is recognized for service and responsiveness—BTI, a Boston-based research and consulting firm, has named Sidley as one of only two firms to have been in the top ten of the BTI Client Service rankings every year since the inception of those rankings in 2001, and was number one in three of those years.
