Sigma Promotes Flanagan

Sigma Partners has named Paul Flanagan as a venture partner. He previously was an executive-in-residence with the firm and, before that, was an executive vice president and CFO with VistaPrint. Flanagan works out of Sigma's Boston office.



Sigma Partners, an early-stage technology venture capital firm founded in 1984, today announced that Paul Flanagan has been named venture partner. Paul was previously an executive in esidence at Sigma. During his 20-year career Paul has taken two companies rom early-stage venture-backed companies to public companies, each with revenues in excess of $100 million and market capitalizations over $1 billion.


Paul's career includes eleven years in operating roles, holding executive positions at VistaPrint and StorageNetworks, and nine years in public accounting at Ernst & Young LLP.


“After working with Paul as an EIR for over a year, we knew he was the right fit for our investment team,” commented Bob Davoli, a managing director in Sigma's Boston office. “His operating expertise makes him a great resource for our entrepreneurs.”


Before Sigma, Paul was EVP and CFO with VistaPrint Ltd., an online graphic design and full color printing company serving the small business market.


VistaPrint raised $138M in an IPO led by Goldman Sachs that resulted in a market capitalization in excess of $1.2 billion. Previous to VistaPrint, Paul held the CEO, COO, and CFO roles at varying times at StorageNetworks, a data-storage software and services company backed by Sigma Partners.


Paul led the company through four private rounds of financing, an initial public offering, and a subsequent follow on offering, achieving a multi-billion dollar market capitalization. Prior to joining StorageNetworks, Paul was a vice president at Lasertron, Inc., a manufacturer of fiber optic components for the telecommunication industry. Lasertron was a division of publicly traded Oak Industries, which was eventually purchased by Corning Incorporated. Paul began his career with Ernst & Young LLP and was a senior manager in the Entrepreneurial Services, Audit Services, and Mergers and Acquisitions areas.

Paul Flanagan is based in Sigma Partners' Boston office, one of three national offices that invest in a variety of technology industry segments throughout the U.S. The team is currently investing Sigma Fund 8, a $500 million fund raised in 2007.
