Spinnaker Coating, a Troy, Oh.-based maker of adhesive coated paper used in product labeling and other things, has been sold to its 250 employees by prior investors. The transaction has turned Spinnaker into an S Corporation ESOP that allows current and future employees to obtain a beneficial ownership interest in the company without making a personal investment in it. (The idea? For employees to generate significant retirement benefits for themselves by ensuring that the company performs well.) Verit Advisors, a Chicago-based investment banking firm, advised the company on the transaction.
